Erin has asked us to come and sing this Saturday, July 14 3:30-4:30 pm She apologizes for the short notice but really feels the striking Hard Rock Casino workers group could use a morale booster. This is what she describes as going on:
The situation for Hard Rock folks is that their employer, Great Canadian Gaming, is paying shamelessly low wages that won’t even keep up with the provincial increases to minimum wage without the union despite a 96% jump in stock price over the last year, allows managers to call workers “faggots,” and has hired the notorious union busting HR director from the CUPE strike at Blue Cross Blue Shield last year.
The workers voted to strike by 99% have been out for 2 months. Last week they voted a contract down that was recommended by the bargaining committee. There is a possibility there will be another ratification vote but it is unclear when that would happen so it would really be great for folks to get a shot in the arm!
